What is the Junior Interpreter (JI) Program?
Area teenagers learn to give quality tours of all three floors of the museum and assist in our education programs by attending a multi-day training program. The program is free and participants must qualify and be recommended. These talented teens become knowledgeable about Beaumont History, the McFaddin & Ward families, architecture, and life in the early 1900s.
The junior interpreter program gives teenagers a positive experience at the McFaddin-Ward House, inspiring them to be lifelong learners and museum & history advocates.Through service to the museum, junior interpreters (JIs) gain life and leadership skills, and learn about historical research and customer service.
To give tours: JIs receive reading material, participate in interactive lectures, learn communication techniques, and develop their own tour aids. Before graduating from the JI program, the teens build their confidence in dealing with the public from giving test tours to their friends and family.
To assist in museum programs: JIs can help with our children's programs. JIs supervise activities for our special events such as the Harvest Hoedown and Christmas. JIs are guides for our many schools tours.
JIs can work in our library. JIs can give invaluable assistance in our outreach programs.
Benefits: Meet new people. Work with the
public. Get a free shirt. Earn volunteer hours for school or
college applications. Receive
