the Collection
McFaddin-Ward House interprets the
site’s history through its extensive collection of furniture, ceramics,
glass, silver, textiles, archival materials, and other material culture
that was preserved by the family. Comprising more than 40,000 objects, the
collection consists of home furnishings and memorabilia pertinent to many
different interpretive themes. European, American, and Asian items include
800 pieces of furniture, 10,000 textiles, 1,200 silver objects, 3,500
ceramics, and other household items such as kitchen utensils, travel
irons, consumer products, oscillating fans, to over 20,000 manuscripts,
photographs, and period literature. These objects span over 150 years and
give insight into the tastes and lifestyles of one wealthy Southeast Texas
family during the first half of the twentieth century.
