Kitchen / Butler's Pantry

McFaddin-Ward KitchenAs a main artery to both the public and private rooms of the house, the kitchen served as a link to the back porch, where supplies were delivered on a daily basis.  Used by long-time cook Louis Lemon, the kitchen employed some of the most advanced technology and consumer products of the time period, and saw changes, such as the transference from a wood-burning to gas stove.

Just adjacent to the dining room, the long hallway or vestibule in the butler’s pantry is lined with cabinets for porcelain and glass storage.  In 1912, the McFaddins had this space connected to the breakfast room for easier access to the east side of the house.  Other equipment that would be used by John Golden, the McFaddins’ butler in the 1920s, included a large sink that was connected to a cistern at the back of the house, and a plate warmer.
